Intermediate Illustration
I thoroughly enjoyed teaching this illustration course. When I was the students’ age, I was incredibly inspired by the great illustrators of the past including NC Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish and Arthur Rackham. My aim for this semester was to have students learn from the great illustrators of the past in order to grow their imaginations and technical abilities. Over the past several months we have studied and created copies of iconic illustrations, honed our skills at portraiture and figure drawing, reviewed drawing and painting fundamentals and learned composition techniques. For the final project the students illustrated (and wrote in a few cases) children's books.

Drawing With Color
This course was an excellent opportunity for students to get acquainted with concepts of color, color composition and color harmony without the toxicity and mess of oil paint. We started the semester by reviewing fundamental drawing techniques and concepts including proportions, perspective, line and value. During the rest of the semester students worked on stilllifes, landscapes and portraits in pencil, colored pencil, charcoal and pastel. I was very pleased with many of the final projects that the students created. It is wonderful to see everyone's progress throughout the year.
